My latest edition lovie :) I acquired her from a Craigslist ad. A local college student was selling her because she didn't have time for her anymore. She came in a tiny round cage that I promptly removed her from the first night I brought her home and put her into a bigger cage.

I named her Lilikoi because she looks like the bakery cakes here ( yellow & orangish) in color. She is a Lutino.

She's been having fun chattering along with my other lovies and stretching her wings to fly each morning.

Here she is!

She's beautiful! I don't think she's lutino, though. That blue fanny is indicative of Australian cinnamon. Might be a boy. You should DNA. :)

Hmm you could be right, I'm no expert in mutations but right off the bat he looked like a lutino to me. I do think she is a he. After owning lovebirds awhile you can almost tell without DNA testing...lol.. Girls sassy and feistier. Boys more mellow and tend to be cuddlier.

Casey at pet hale may be able to tell you more about the mutation.

She could be right. I think lutinos have cream colored tails. I have another Australian Cinnamon then that's not as colorful, paler yellowish green, with a small hint of orange and blue tail.

This is my Australian cinnamon Beep.

Btw- is that hyacinth macaw that Pet Hale is selling the one that always been in the front of store? I'm not intetested, goodness no! Just curious because I thought that was their bird.

Yes that is Jewel and she is for sale. $15,000. She is 9 years old. Casey has some pretty cool mutation lovebirds and mot not only be able to tell you the mutation, but just MIGHT be able to tell you something about the likely history of the bird. I would bet that if anyone knows who is producing what mutations on the island, she likely does. In fact, the bird may have originated with her. Tons of people here breed lovies, but not very many are producing tame ones.

Also, I can tell you that if the bird has blue, it is not a lutiono. The lutiono General removes all blue. Beyond that, weeelll, I have my hands full with other species and I admit to not knowing much about lovebird mutations. But I know how the ino gene functions so I know there would be no blue on the bird at all.

Woooow! $15,000 omg! Looks like their baby Red bellies were snatched up quick! So Lilikoi must be an Australian Cinnamon- a really bright one! According the girl she's four months old and was hand fed, I never asked her where she got it from but the girl lives in town so perhaps somewhere around there.

Maybe I'll bring the bird in there sometime so Casey can tell me about it. I have to bring Doobies stand into Kalihi Pet this weekend to see if they can order me another, he's been stranded inside the house since his wheel broke off again.

Beautiful new lovie :)! Beep is gorgeous too. I don't know what the mutations are called, but my guess is that Lilikoi and Beep are two different mutations. Both with that cinnamon greenish color.

I bet Lilikoi is glad to be out of the small round cage, and able to say hi to her own species :). Does she play with toys?

Yes, I have two DNA'd girls and one boy. The edged dilute I suspect is another girl and the new Lilikoi I suspect a boy but three out of the five are DNA'd.

I don't breed them though, they are just my pets and live in separate cages. The two girls- Beep & Jellybean are good friends so they go out together. I had my Sea green boy and the edged dilute out once but they really didn't care much for each other. The edged dilute 'Sweet Pea' seems to have taken a liking to Lilikoi however. I don't want babies so I really don't want opposite genders out together but I suppose I could refrigerate any eggs if I had to, I'm afraid of egg binding as well. I had enough trouble with Beep as a lone bird attaching herself to toys with bells and her happy hut so I had to remove those items from her cage.

I haven't really seen him play with toys yet. I saved her/his rope toy bell and put it in his new cage and he likes to sit by that. I'm wondering too if it's a diff mutation? I wonder how two Australian Cinnamons can look so different but maybe they can? Maybe he's an American cinnamon? Lovebirds have so many different mutations that it's hard to keep up with them all!
