Adopted a lovebird

Still sad about the death of my previous lovebird "Lucky."

Adopted "Punky" from Metro Denver Parrot Rescue.

I hope I can give Punky a good home. Punky is not tame at all. If I open her cage, she flies all over the house. Punky will not get on our shoulders or anything. Punky is between two and five years old.

Lucky never did accept our hands. But she became very tame in every other way.

I hope I can find the time to tame Punky.

Punky is gorgeous!

Sounds like she needs some space before she can learn that you aren't scary. Sitting next to the cage doesn't always help, as that may cause more stress. It may help to find at which point you can stand away from the cage without Punky stressing out or looking for a way to escape and slowly approach. If you notice any escape like behaviors, stop and wait until she relaxes, then try approaching again.
