Well, quite into this rescue, the scum is slowly coming to the surface! Four very trusting, terrified orange faced love birds, from the same clutch, plus two babies.
I am working on diet, but was horrified with every seed mixture, first ingredient, millet? Even with bragging, no sunflower seeds!understand, these creatures were living on rotted food and black water! So mom and dad are brother and sister! So bonding aside, I am really at a lost and overwhelmed as to do with this family! It looks like my daughter, a separate post, may keep the babies! These finds are hand tame and I so want to see them into a trusting home!

There is a big debate about seeds. In the wild, that's most of what these guys would eat. There are no pellet trees. I've rescued & kept birds for over 45 years, and ALL my birds always have a bowl of seed mix available. Try to get them interested in fresh fruits & vegetables. That should be their primary diet. Try raw, cooked, cut up small pieces, mashed, chunks, etc. What & how they will not eat today, they may tomorrow. And what they do eat today, they may not eat tomorrow. I have always found Lovies to be adventurous & inquisitive about food. Variety is the key here.
As for mating in the family, not good. But, if you cannot separate the sexes, this could be tricky, as they have already bonded & mated. Do you know which ones are the parents?
First, worry about getting everyone healthy, and on a good diet.
As a lifetime bird rescuer & rehabilitator, I want to thank you for helping these angels out. Good luck.
