- I have 1 lovebird, but plan to get many many more in the future when I have more time(:
( hope this works bc I'm on mobile )
Nash is a 10 month old peachface DNA tested male lovebird rescue I got. I was never expecting to get a pet parrot, but I am sooo glad I did. I've only ever had rodents before so having such an interactive pet has really been a blast..
I got Nash when he was 3 months old from a pet shop. I would nerve condone buying from a petshop but this was a special case.. He was not tame and was raised by lovebirds not humans so he was afraid of us. He was housed in a fish tank with his brothers and sisters and was kept there as they were all sold away and he was left alone. Imagine having your entire family and friends taken away and it's just you all alone in a disgusting tiny closet.
A woman came in and demanded to have him. I though this was great and started a convo with her because Nash was a pretty bird and I wanted to learn more.. She was a complete idiot and I knew she would mistress him in a hundred ways. She showed me pictures of the birds she had at home and they were stuffed into tiny cages with 4 in a small flight cage that I would honestly only ever use as a travel cage for one finch.. He was a nightmare and I didn't want this bird to live like that. We had owned 3 finches at the time so I knew a bit about birds, but not as much as I would have hoped. The woman left to go get money out of the ATM and I swooped in and bought him right there and then went and bought him toys, a cage, and a good pellet diet to get him switched to slowly. That was all I knew about parrots...
I've had him 7 months now and he is my world! I have learned SO much about him and other parrots and actually volunteer at a parrot rescue now where I take care of their 30+ birds! Nash brought me into the light of birds and I have recently decided that I would like another bird. I enjoy lovebirds but I think another species would be cool too, maybe a GCC or a Senegal. I don't want anything bigger because I know I couldn't handle it ( I have tons of experience with macaws and have made friends with 2 at the rescue who now trust me, but I just don't think I would want one in my home... XD )
Do any of you have any advice or suggestions? I would wait until I have a new cage and supples for one so it would be several months or more but I just wanted to let you all know I am interested and want some suggestions
