Juno & Milo (lovebirds)
Hi - help please! I have two lovebirds :rainbow1: :rainbow1: who I have been suspecting for a while are male and female and who have been mating (they are about 15mths old). One has now started laying eggs. She laid one a week ago but it smashed at the bottom of the cage as I had just cleared out all her bits of paper. She now rebuild her nest and has laid another egg which she is keeping warm.

So this is all a bit of a problem in itself. But it gets massively complicated by the fact that I am travelling abroad for a week from the 19th and the plan was to take the birdies on bus and train (for about 2hrs total journey time door to door) to a friend's house who I trust to look after them. I would have some people here who could pop by to feed them once a day if let them stay at home, but no one who would actively spend time with them (when i was previously away for a few days one of my birds basically stopped eating while I was away, so I now wanted them with someone who will play with them and let them out).

Please give me some advice. It would feel so cruel to take her egg away from her, but at the same time what if I end up with six eggs which hatch while I am away (I read it's 20 day incubation time? Also she laid an egg a week ago, any chance she is just not a prolific layer)? If I let her keep her egg, what would be the best option, could I risk taking her to friend (has to be on public transport, I have no car)? The plan was to transport cage folded up in suitcase and them in small travel cage, but this would not fit their house (which she has turned into her nest). Or would it be better to have them stay in their own home, but locked up (they have a decent sized cage) for a whole week with a stranger popping by to feed them? What if something happens to them/their baby?

Thank you for any words of advice.
