Training Question

Hello! I have a little 5 month old peach-faced lovebird named Rizzo and I love him(?) to death but he won't leave my laptop alone. I do online school so a good four or five hours in the morning I'm sat in bed across from his cage and working. I would love to utilize this time to just hang out with my feather baby but he tirelessly attacks my laptop. Bites at the keys, the side of the screen, the ports. Whatever he can get his little beak on and no matter what, I can't make him cut it out. He hates to be picked up and held in a closed hand so I do that whenever he starts messing with it but he's just persistent. He's the sweetest little guy and these few hours in the morning feel like wasted time but with this behavior he absolutely can't be out while I'm working on school because I'll spend so much time trying to keep him off my laptop I get nothing done. On top of that, he's grumpy to be so close but so far from me so he will off and on pick up and then slam the smaller door of his cage shut. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Suggest you may want to try putting other interesting things around your computer for him to investigate. Lovebirds love to chew anything paper, especially the females. There are several safe items around the average home like straws. You can cut them shorter and birds will play with them. I small dish of shallow water is too to set out also. Try a small plastic basket with foot or small toys in it. A small play gym too if you can fit it all on your computer table.

Yeah good luck with that. My Yellow SHoulder Amazon, Salty, loves to scoop keys off my tablet's keyboard, which has a detachable, aftermarket keyboard. He likes those keys so much, I bought 3 extra keyboards, so I could replace the keys after he ripped one or 2 off. I asked at work if they had some busted keyboards, for him to chomp on while I work, too.

Parrots tend to like playing with the "toys" we play with. Your bird sees you playing with your toy and wants to play also. I think the best you can do is provide another laptop for the birds, but I don't think that will solve your problem. I have some similar issues with tablets, phones and laptops. I have found that unless I'm willing to engage the bird and gently discourage the picking at the electronics it is best to not have the bird on my lap or table.

You could try something like the Atom near your workstation. This would bring the bird out of her cage, but not on your work area. Unless like my lovebird, yours can fly at which point you are out of luck.
