Bonded pair of Love Birds
Hi guys I'm new to bird keeping, but I saw a pair of love birds 12 weeks old and fell in love.
Anyway, I have been looking for a while for a almost 'model' of taming a pair of love birds. (most seem to be directed at a single bird). I have had them coming up to 3 weeks now and I'm making progress with one, however the other one is still very skittish, when he (Jet) freaks out she (Sky) freaks out, because he is freaking out.
Today, however she seems to have gone back in taming, she freaks out by me just waking past, and when I was tightening up a perch she fly to try and bite me, something she did for the first maybe 2 days but hasn't since until today.
I have been trying to figure out their favourite treat to aid in taming, however as you can see this hasn't been the easiest, as before I received them, I believe they had only been fed on sunflowers, so will not go anyway near any form of fruit, veg, pellet, nut or even other seeds. (Boiled, fresh, grated, sliced)
I honestly will appreciate any form of advice, on any of the problems that I have.
Thank you

Hi and welcome.

From what I can gather you have an up hill struggle with a pair unfortunately. Re the food issue if you put one or two sunflower seeds on some veggies, chop is useful as it is all sorts chopped up. I use a food processor/chopper to prep veggies for my 'too, and he isnt able to pick n choose so easily. Doing this in the morning is good as they are hungry. If the seeds are in/on the chop then they wont be able to get some on their beaks as the first step.

You can also clip some wet leafy greens to the cage, even if they only play or bathe in it initially. May be also make some birdie bread which will enable you to hide lots of goodness in it.

Have you tried walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts or millet as treats? Really need to cut those fatty little sunflower seeds down.
