I have 2 Budgies My males name is Joey Beaks and my little girl is Miss Lucy. My Newest Addition Oscar the Love bird.
I just got this lovely little guy 3 days ago. He is quite different then my budgies but in a really good way. He is so playful, all he wants to do is have fun. I have only ever had budgies so this is a new adventure for me. We are off to a very good start but I think he needs a bigger cage. I have a 18L 18H 14W. Please if anyone knows better then I do because I feel he might need bigger.
Any other advice is welcome.

Lovebirds are smaller parrots like a GCC but 18x18x14 seems kind of small to me too. I'd step up to a medium at lest something like 24x24x24 more or less it doesn't have to be immediate, but I'd invest in it, he will be living there a long time.

I'd check this link, second post from Monicamc http://www.parrotforums.com/lovebirds/36976-what-type-cage-best-senior-lovebird.html our forums are a treasure trove when you learn how to search them.

You are right the cage is too small for a lovebird, or even a budgie. I would recommend getting the largest cage you can afford. The bigger the better!! I also notice that you were using plastic perches which are bad for their feet, so get some varied surfaces for your bird to perch on such as natural wood, cement, rope, and calcium perches.

Thank you guys so much. I knew it felt to small but that is what the pet store recommended to me. I did go back and trade it for a much bigger cage. I also got him a rope perch, wood perch and a branch. He is doing really good and has mellowed quite a bit which I hope is a good sign. I love having this forum I always get the help I need.

Sounds good!

I'm glad we could help out.

Please come back with any other questions, after a while you will enjoy helping other new birds with their people problems.
