Can someone help me please, my baby fischer lovebird's wings aren't growing or maybe they are but very very slowly. When i first got him he didn't have his full back or tail feathers yet and now it's been almost two months and still can't fly.
I can see them under his wing they're white.. and one of them is popping out but it's been in it's same length for a while. I feed him greens, eggs, and the cuttle bone, still trying with other fruits and veges.
Am i too paranoid or is there a problem?

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
Hmmm, that sounds like something a certified avian vet should take a look at.

(Not to alarm you, but what is the expression people use? "This is above my paygrade ".)

Do you know when he/she hatched?
(actual age always helps with the detective-work)

Do you have pictures? Were the feathers clipped or cut at all? Does he get seeds or pellets?

Okay, i just needed a confirmation that it was a problem. I'll look for an avian in the nearest clinic as im new here and hopefully i'll find one.

Not sure about his age but seven weeks ago he wasn't feathered in his back or tail yet.

I don't think that he was clipped at all as he was young and flight feathers were still growing.

He gets seeds

A seed only diet is a DEATH diet for parrots. GCC's need more nutrition than just seeds. Especially young ones growing first feathers.

PLease check out the sub forum on nutrition.

check the website www.aav.org. Association of Avian Veternarians. Put in your zip code and change how many miles you are willing to drive. It will list all avian vets in your area.

Any chance you can get those wings stretched out??? I have a feeling that he might have been clipped...

Here's a photo I have of a clipped lovebird - both sides of the flights have been trimmed

As far as diet goes, here's a thread with some ideas! :)

http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-...7-converting-parrots-healthier-diet-tips.html

Since you said he likes eggs, maybe try a bird safe veggie omelette?
Yeah i was thinking the same about stretching the wings, i just didn't know how.. i might try to take a look today, but even if i couldn't he's supposed to see the avian tomorrow anyway.

The veggie omelette is a great idea, thank u so much
I have so many ways in mind.. i'll keep trying them until i get him to eat everything.
Thanks again
