Yes, I have been in this situation before!

You want to make sure your lovebird did not die of a contagious disease that can or has been passed on now to your other birds. Do you know what your lovebird could've passed away from? If it wasn't an accident, it could likely be an illness that manifested or worsened over time and led to death.

A necropsy done by an avian vet can determine exact cause of death for your lovebird. Until a cause of death can be determined, I would not get a new mate for your bird until results come back to a non-contagious disease, otherwise all your birds could be infected with it and all of them could be in danger.

I had a hen cockatiel die while on eggs, so sad and her mate very confused. My first step was getting a necropsy done on her body to determine what she passed from and if my male cockatiel was at risk. I was so worried about him being sick, possibly, too.

She turned out to have had liver/kidney failure likely she was born with it but it was not contagious, so my male was safe. I did get another new bird around 4 months after that (a male) and they became good buddies. Then I got a rescue female around same age as him around 5 months after that . He was happy to have other birds around!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
My deepest condolences for the loss of your Lovebird.

Superb advice above, I have no personal experiences to share.
