Please help! My male lovebird has been regurgitating food on the curtains and rubbing himself on them. As soon as he is awake he is really eager to get out of the cage to go and get to the curtains and stays there for most of the day. Since this behaviour started he has lost all the feathers only on the crop area. The crop itself looks like its swollen and possibly bruised. Is this all related to hormones? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
1. Are you sure he is male. 2. it sounds at least partly hormonal--never allow a bird to access shadowy spaces (these include: tents, huts, boxes, pots, tubes, bedding, pillows, paper piles, curtains they can get under, drawers etc)
3. The swollen crop sounds somewhat concerning-- I would seek a vet's advice, but definitely the rubbing and regurgitation and curtains sounds hormonal..just dk about the crop..
4. If it were me, I would remove the curtains..some may take issue with this, but...that's what I would do.

Is he plucking his crop?
Sometimes sexually stimulated/ overly-hormonal birds will pluck, but sometimes birds in pain (internally) will also pluck, which is why a vet visit is definitely in order either way. I know many appear to be closed, but even in totally locked-down areas, many offer curbside-drop-of with a call-ahead.
