some behaviour questions

mango and munch arent caged together but occassionally i let them visit... the groom eachother for the first little while... but the munch starts biting mango's neck and making him squeal and will also nip his toes. they also grab eachothers beak.. theyre almost 5 months old (will be in the beginning of april). once i caught them both trying to mount the other

. thing is, i know munch is female. shes got that female nasty attitude lol mango im getting dna'd in may, but i think he might be male as hes very laid back and shy. i dont understand why they cant get along or if this is normal. theyre siblings.

also... theyre starting to molt, which im aware is normal for their age, but munch is dropping flights already. is this normal?

Lovebirds can be like that. Molting is normal right now.

so its completely normal for them to be like that to eachother? would that mean it'd be safe for them to share a cage eventually? (completely depending on mango's gender lol. if hes male, i wont let them share a cage lol)

If they're siblings even if its two different sex, I would not allow. To prevent inbreeding!

well ya, i was avoiding that. i dont know mango's gender. hes getting dna'd. but i still wont anyways then

thanks for all your help! youve been really helpful. im still new to lovies, but i know inbreeding is a no no. all the other forums ive asked for help about these behaviours (the aggression from munch) says shes too mean and cant even be let out with anyone. if thats the case, i'll allow the lovies out of cage time together (havent been because ive been told this isnt normal...) but thanks so much!

Your very welcome. I used to raise them years ago. One I raised was my personal attack bird. He attacks on command...lol.... he dive bombs.... its funny! He flies to me on command too. Then I was told either use him as a breeding stock or I have to sell him...I had too many as pets, had a hard time selling my babies cause I want to keep them all. Part of the reason why I quit breeding....

D: who would tell you that??? i wont get into breeding. my tiels mate but i dont want breeding. they all get 12-13 hours of sleep a night anyways

breeding is not something i could do. im interested in genetics, but thats not a reason to breed on its own. lol

could you clarify mutations actually? i havent been able to figure it out. both have got some tiny apricot pink feathers in their foreheads... but i cant figure out if the pied is a SF violet dutch blue pied or a seagreen pied... and munch i dont know at all either lol neither are whitefaces

I never got into mutations on Lovebirds. But their adult color could change once they mature.

ah, thats so frustrating lol thanks anyways

munch can be very very mean. she bites and attacks me lol. shes very smart though. shes figured out how to open her feeder doors so i have to lock them. her sibling mango is shy and friendly and he doesnt bite--just nibbles and gives kisses

i know she does! mango is so gentle i think he might be a tiel lol munch rips skin off. she throws little tantrums when im near the cage. she does NOT like me lol. shes my fiances bird and she likes him
