RIP Ivy 3/23/12-4/12/13,

New congo grey baby comes home sometime in May!
This is on ebay for $199 near where I live. The base is measures 25.5" x 35.5", Width is 33" and 63" tall from floor to top branch. It says good for medium parrots, but it sounds big enough for a macaw. Do you think it's worth it, and big enough for my baby catalina?

Oo, that looks fun! The only problem with manazanite is it can be slippery. You can wrap a few perches with vet wrap though, or rope to help your bird get a good grip. I think it looks big enough for one bird, its hard to tell the diameter of the branches but comparing it to the rope thats hanging off it, they look a good size.

It IS hard to tell, and I'd hate to spend $199 not seeing it first, but shipping on these things is expensive, so if I can buy this locally, it's almost worth it! I do have vet wrap; thanks for the tip about it being slippery!

Oh no - just found this locally on craigslist for $400. I'd LOOOOOVE this. I may need to work on hubby and convince him that the parrot NEEDS this and no other for good mental health :D

Now that is awesome, I have no idea where I'd put that in my house it looks huge! But you'd have one happy birdie.

LOL right! It's 36"x72" ... who needs a couch in their living room, anyway? ROFL. It doesn't get much better than this one, though!

Second one is a good choice as the first one is made for medium parrot with smaller branches.

I would not get a perch like that one at all. Your Macaw will climb down to floor in 2 seconds and be running amuck in your house. Consider a perch with branches high enough so the bird will stay put.

My macaw do that only when we're home. If I do forget to pad lock his door and he opens it while no one is home, he stays in his cage on his own. They shouldn't be left unsupervised when they have a way getting down anyway...

Oh they both look so nice!! I recently made my own for 4 bucks!! Just the cost of wood for the base and jute cording! (which can also be used to make slippery surfaces easy to grasp if wrapped correctly :) ) I found a perch that I wanted so bad but it was VERY expensive. Look into your local trees and see if you can snag some limbs from bird safe ones! I was surprised at just how much fun I had making it :)

my vote though, is for the second one :) you're right, who needs a couch!? :p

I did get it :09: (bows her head in shame). It was totally an impulse buy, but we love it, and so does Rio, which is all that matters! LOL. I really like that there's two trees - we're planning on building two separate bases so each tree can be on its own. That way, he'll have two spots to hang on that he can fly between in the living room. Plus, it's so damn BIG that I really wanted to break it up into smaller sections to be able to fit in smaller spaces. We'll keep the main base in case we want to double up again. It's really nice, but I will say java wood is more slippery than I expected... Some of the branches are too wide for him to get a good grip on, so that plus it being somewhat slippery leads to a lot of wing flapping before he gets his balance. He usually opts for three of the smaller branches to hang out on. All in all, though, I'm happy! :D He just started to explore it more within the last few days (at first, he just wanted to be on our TV stand), and he didn't really leave it at all today unless he was on us, which is impressive since he's fully winged! I guess its a winner in his eyes ;)
