Has anyone here ordered a cage over the internet for their macaw? I'm looking for a large cage and am not having any luck finding one that isn't made in China and is large enough.

If you have ordered, would you mind sharing the url and whether or not you've been happy with the company?

Check out this article about No-Name Cages. It also says that although some brand name cages (i.e. Kings) are made in China or the Czech Republic, they're closely monitored.

Plus, here's a Macaw cage from Prevue (based in Chicago) that is a pretty decent price

Personally, I bought a cage made in China at a really great price. It was all I could afford, and I wanted Sisqo out of his small cage. When he got sick last winter, I had it lead tested and it came back okay. However, if I had a bird with a really curious beak I wouldn't put them in this cage b/c they could just undo all the screws!

Good luck with your search

I'm not having any luck with eBay, but maybe something will be listed there soon. I found one a couple weeks ago but the seller would answer every other question but where the cage was manufactured, even though I asked 3 different times. I'm just not sure about the ones from China after all the toys that were recalled by Mattel a couple weeks ago.

Keupi - a Senegal.

I've ordered two cages in the past year on the internet. Both were ordered via www.drsfostersmith.com. Neither was for a Macaw.

The first one was a necessity one (I had to get Keupi - a Senegal- out of the house - zinc poisoning) and it had to be stainless steel. So, I bought the best (although small) stainless steel one I could find as well as a stainless steel gym.

The second (his newer one - the first one is now his vacationing home at grandma and grandpas) is so much bigger and better for him. Again, stainless steel.

The one big thing though with the second one was shipping. The shipper they picked didn't deliver up a flight of stairs. (Minor though.)

However, I can say that with cages they have a good variety and from what I understand, a good reputation. In terms of purchasing from them via the Internet, what's shown is exactly what you will receive. I know they have cages for larger birds but no experience with those. The cages though I ordered for Keupi are very sound, of exceptional quality, and definitely will last quite a long time.

Hope that helps :)

I've never ordered a cage from the internet, but have you tried Avian Adventures? I know a lot of people have those, and some have ordered them. They are easy to put together, no nuts and bolts system, meaning if you have a bird like to un screw things, then he wont be able to take apart the cage, since none are visible. There are a little pricey, but if you order straight from the outlet you save some money. And also they are totally worth the money, they make cages in both powder coated, and stainless steel. I was looking on there website to see where they're made, but can't find it. You could contact them however.

There site is this:

And there outlet store website is here:

They also sometimes have cages that were returned because they had mild defects, like a chips, or a crack in the perch, or something. Which are also sold cheaper.

3 of my birds have this cage-I let them pick out their own so I know they'll like it, and it's WONDERFUL! It's easy to clean, it looks nice, it has a playgym attached, a seed catcher around it, on wheels, and best of all, IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE BIRD TO FLIP THE FOOD CUPS!
It's also really cheap considering the size and quality of the cage. The customer service was great, and shipping was REALLY fast and reasonably priced.
