I'm getting baby macaw (6 weeks old). The breeder didn't put any leg band. I want to put closed leg band. Does anyone know if it is possible to put closed leg band at this age for Catalina macaw? thanks for the answer

At six weeks his foot is already going to be too big to get the appropriately sized band on.

I'm thinking about size 20 from the website below. But not sure if it is too late

Closed bands must be put on at 18-24 days for most macaws. At 6 weeks old your baby is already too big to band. Putting a larger band on the bird isn't a good idea, bands that are too large can fall off(and possibly be eaten) or get caught causing the bird to injure his leg.

Icywolf is totally right! It is too late for a closed band.

Thank you for suggestion. How about open leg band? Any know how it works? Will the bird get used to if i put it later on? I may travel and want to take the bird.

We got our baby at 10days old, and handed and band.. Talked to the vet! She told to NOT put it on the baby! She doesn't know how many people pay her lots of Money to take them off, and in some cases birds broke there legs..
