There's a cool two-way (push-to-talk) voice application called Zello that's free to everyone and provides instant voice communications to anywhere in the world where cell service or Internet access exists. It works on all devices (PC's, Macs, Androids, I-Phones, Blackberries, Windows Mobile devices, etc.) and provides high quality digital voice chatting capability using very little bandwidth (unlike skype or similar applications). Once installed you can use it to engage in private chats, group chats, and password protected group chats and it requires approval by each user before anyone can be added to their contact list. It would never take the place of a great forums site like this one, but it could certainly enhance the experience and allow our birds to be heard in real-time and in some cases even give them the ability to talk to those on the other end.

I've been using Zello since October of 2011 and in my opinion it's a superb free service. It has very little down time and no ads at all (at least so far). On smartphones it just works, period. And on computers all you have to be sure of is that you have a functional microphone and that your audio input adjustments are set properly on your operating system. It allows you to either hold down a screen button (with your mouse left-click button) to transmit, or to use a second screen button that locks on the transmit mode until you click it off. It also provides a way to assign any key(s) on your keyboard to either or both of those two functions if you like.

It's just an idea. I've been chatting with some parrot friends on it for about 9 months and I'm still impressed with it.

If interested, you can download it here: Zello. Live conversation.

i going to look that over i may do it. but i dont have no one to talk you lol
Well, I'm using it so to start with I'll talk to you on it. And if you find that you like it, just tell people you know about it and maybe they'll get it and join you. It can't hurt since it's free. Plus, it's always a handy tool to have and keep ready to use. It has many uses.

Yes, it works well on android. It's dedicated high quality push-to-talk voice chatting, a lot like two-way radio. And it does that very well since it doesn't do other things. You can create channels on it (which are like chatrooms) and make them public or just allow certain users to join them. And, of course, you can use it for one-on-one private conversations with those in your contact list. But it's digital voice chat only.

I have a channel there called parrots right now. It's public but I'm currently the only one there.
