In another thread I posted a link to the spreadsheet which this data originated from. On the chance it may be interesting to everyone I decided to convert the data to an image and post it separately here.

Thanks for posting this up. I wondered how Mac, our B&G, compared to others.

He seems to lean toward the larger size.

You're welcome. And yes, I believe it is correct. 1700g = 3lb 12oz = 59.9oz ....if you take 59.9oz and divide it by 16 (there are 16 oz in a lb) you get 3.74 lb ... so 1700 grams = 3.74 pounds :) Of course, the low end for Hys is just 1200 grams (2.6 pounds). It seems they come in quite a range of weights!

You're quite welcome.

So does my Jack. He currently weighs about 1160 grams but he inches up and barely passes 1200 at certain times each year. I always weigh them in the morning on an empty crop.

One thing that has always made me wonder..........Obviously when I have the GW's on me I can feel how heavy they are, but it's weird how with the Zon's they feel MUCH heavier than they look. I know it must have something to do with muscle density but it still throws me for a loop.

All I can say is that your Zons sound like some dense little guys (not in the mental sense ;))

I love the Zon's like crazy, even though it's VERY one sided, but I swear they're on drugs or psycho's 90% of the time. I've been around a lot of Zon's before, but these 2 are "special" :54: :30:

I love Amazons...they're pretty cool birds. I pretty much adore all parrots of all sizes :)

One thing I think this chart suggests is that the Hyacinth isn't necessarily the largest of the Macaws, at least not in an exclusive way. Personally, I think it would be more accurate to say that the Hyacinth and the Greenwing, together, share the top slot as the largest Macaw species - and quite equally so, I might add!

I don't think they allow words like that here :54:

I never even thought of having a GW, always wanted a Zon, look where that got me.

Just goes to show, no matter how much you like them, they might not like you back. :(

I love those s***head birds and will never stop, friggin stubborn, onery, SOB's :54:

BTW.............. I still call them "Dumb & Dumber" :)

my reference chart
I've seen similar figures in charts before. They seem pretty accurate except for the missing zero in the B&G's bottom weight and the 100 cm (40 inches) for the Hy length. My guess is that there are very few Hys (if any) that measure 40 inches from beak to tail tip. Most of them are about 35 or 36 inches per my observation.

Just curious , what time do you uncover or do your birds wake up ?
Mine are up , I uncover them around 645 7am.....is that too early ?
Should I leave them covered a little longer ? They will start making noises as soon as the dogs come back in so I figure they want to be uncovered. And Baby is on soft foods so i
didn't want him to be hungry while I was having coffee......that's not fair :(

I think some birds align with household schedules (ie, adapt to their family's dynamics). But it can also vary from bird to bird. Zaf usually awakens between 4:30 and 5:30 AM, whereas my other 3 like to sleep until around 8:00 to 8:30 AM. I'd say the more sleep, the better when it comes to parrots.
