I have posted before my desire to add another bird to our family. I have had a dream of adding a greenwing however I was very nervous that the noise level would be difficult for husband to deal with. He does quite a bit of work at home in the evening. Subsequently I started to look at other birds that might fit the bill (mealys, galahs maybe even another grey) However I kept coming back to the greenwing. My breeder has an adorable, HUGE male baby that I have fallen in love with. I have spent the last few weeks visiting him on and off (almost hoping that someone would go ahead and buy him so I could stop obsessing over him!LOL) Well I have pm'd several members on this forum picking their brain on owning a greenwing. I have sat and had many conversations with my husband as well as trying to play loud you tube videos of macaws. He also reguarly goes to the bird store and has heard them in person. He has been very sweet saying that he was on board with getting one. So off we went on Monday and put our money down on the baby! We will not be getting him until October however I am just so excited! I must also say I am nervous. I was nervous when I finally put a deposit on our grey as well, I tend to overthink everything! This will be our final bird as even I have my limit. We will have our cag Dorothy, our rescue amazon Kiwi and now our greenwing "Moses". this is what I have decided on naming him. He did well the other night when the breeder and I put a harness on him for the first time. The breeder is going to continue to work with him until he gets home. He even lifted his wing after we put the first wing in, like ok, here you go! He is so sweet! I would love to hear from other macaw owners as to what I have in store for our family! I have researched lots & lots over the past year however it's always great hearing first hand!

GW's are fantastic birds, they are by far the friendliest (social) of all our birds. My ReaRea (or "Mighty Mighty ReaRea" as she is referred to at home) is so nice to the entire family, very loving and can be cuddled by all here. Not to mention she is Ruler of the flock as well. I weaned out ReaRea myself and it really helped I'm sure. I have a thread on here somewhere showing her growth progress.

I would love to see her growth progress! I would be curious as to her weight at Moses' age. He was hatched on May 25th, I am going tomorrow to visit him I will have to get a weight on him. I keep hearing that he is large but I really have nothing to compare him to.

Their diet consists of a seed mixture, but that is supplemented by so much more. :52: They get bird organic muffins with fruits and nuts, lots of dried fruits (and fresh) along with most of what we eat within reason. Tonight I plan on making spaghetti, OMG they go nuts over that. Seafood, chicken, pastas, PIZZA!!! :D scrambled eggs.......... the list is long

They'd also consume coffee, wine & beer iffin I'd let them :30:

Basically, they want anything we're having but that can't always happen obviously.

That's probably just about any parrot, I know it sure is Jasper. If he sees me with it he feels like he should have it as well.

Congrats on the new baby! I'm wishing I could have a macaw too one of these days.
