I just got a phonecall a little while ago from a girl I know, wanting to know if I wanted to foster a parrot.

She was friends with Puck, and knew I me to be a parrot person. I guess this little guy(girl?) flew to somebody's shoulder at a local park, and that somebody didn't know what to do with it, so they brought it to their vet and left it there. Vet had it for a week, and was going to give it to the Humane Society, but my friend said she'd take it. She brought it home, and her dad instantly vetoed it, so she called me! She's going to drop it off in a couple hours. :)

Sooooo, we don't know how old it is, or what gender it is. It's been identified as a "dwarf macaw" and she said it's super sweet.

I have Puck's big cage, perches, and toys, and some unopened pellets.

What can you guys tell me about dwarf macaws?

I'm under the impression that the vet is still looking for the owner, and I will make an effort too, but we will see what happens. :)

Is it a macaw? Or is it a conure? lol

Best find out first... and see if anyone is missing him/her!

And if you can find out species, then we might be able to give some better advice! =)

It's some sort of mini macaw thing. I will post pictures in a little bit. I never thought I'd be posting to ask what species my bird is, but here I am! lol

To be honest, I don't know if a macaw will be a good fit for me, but it is worth a try if we can't find the owner. I am concerned about possible noise levels. We're in a good location for having noisy birds, but I may not be able to take anybody who is super loud when I go to college out of state in a couple years.

He's very sweet, although he did nip a little, but I can't really blame him if he is stressed out. I think he'll be a good snuggler. He didn't try to destroy my jewellery (or anything, for that matter)(yet).

He says "hello" very clearly, and vocalizes a bunch of other stuff that I think are words but I can't understand.

Oh my grandmother had that same type of macaw, his name is/was "baby sam" He was extrememly quiet compared to her 6 blue and gold macaws and yellow nape amazon....omg.... my grandmother passed away a few years ago but she adored baby sam, I think they are wonderful birds and I enjoyed many summers in hawaii with her "baby sam" I don't exactly know where my grandfather rehomed her birds to.

Anyways sorry...lol....

He's adorable, and I hope you can get along well with him/her. Awesome.

Btw...I cracked up at the "her dad instantly vetoed it" ......sounds like the story of my life, except my mom checks and balances it and I get to keep it! bwahahaha!!!
