Fargo- Blue and Gold Macaw
hello :)

Just a question about Fargo's black feathers on his face..
He has one that sticks down, not across, it came in about 3 months ago when he was going through his molt, but it didn't grow across like the others are :p
Its not ingrown or anything, just doesn't sit in place
I thought as it grew out it would go into place, but i guess it didn't :31: all his others are perfect with no problems!

You are probably wondering what i mean, so here are some pictures ;)
when he's wet:

when he's dry (his eye looks weird in this pic lol):

so i guess my question is, will it go into place, or will it be like that until it falls out :p

American Bulldog Mix,
It may just stay there until next molt or even permanently. Just run your hand over it to make sure it's not uncomfortable with him.

ok thanks :) he lets me touch it and rub it, and it moves horizontal, but when i remove my thumb it just goes back down, so at least it doesn't annoy him at all

My B&G Kayko has a tailfeather that continually grows in upside down (yellow side up) No you will not likely correct this problem, another feather will grow in just like that one. It has more to do with the feather folicle than the feather. It really doesn't matter to me. Kayko's beak is slightly twisted as well, but it goes with his goofy personality. I love him anyway.

Tab: in my opinion it's hard to say what will, or will not happen with that feather. I think it may be kind of like a cowlick manifesting within a hair growth pattern. It also might change direction (somewhat or a lot) as the follicle cells regenerate a bit, especially since Fargo is young.

Zaf used to have a split-shaft tail feather. Each time he molted it, a new replacement feather would grow in with a split shaft as well. Then after a particular molting, the feather either never grew back from the same follicle, or it did grow back but it no longer had a split shaft. That was years ago and Zaf has been free from split-shaft feathers ever since :D

Mango is currently experiencing his first molt, and one of his little butt feathers under is tail grew in at a strange angle, its still a blood feather so Im not messing with it too much. I can pet him and it will go where its suppose to, but then it just returns to its strange angle. I assumed when it was done growing it would find its way, but maybe it will be a fly away feather long term. I kind of think its cute, when he is playful/excited we cal him slender bird because he pulls all his feathers really close and tight to his body and then stretches himslelf really tall vertically. Now he looks extra adorable because he has that one little butt feather poking out sideways :). I do worry about it getting broken though, since it is pretty unprotected.
