What are blue throats like as pets? i love greenwings but recently had a new interest in blue throats lol:) i read that they're quiet and can be good in appartments which i don't believe being that they're still a macaw and they're good beginning macaws? what do you guys know about them?? do any of you have one??

I can't speak from first hand experience caring for them but I have seen them in person. Very adorable!

I have heard that they are similar to B&G's, however they tend to be *very* mechanical when it comes to macaws. In other words, they love to disassemble things!

I'd love to have a Blue throat one day! I look forward to responses from folks who have one already.

I, sadly, have never seen or had experience with one, but just wanted to add that they are quite smaller than GWs or even B&Gs, they're tiny little things! :p

Yes i've read stories of BTM's opening combination locks!!! and they are pretty small some people consider them mini's!! but they naturally play on their backs, in the wild too! and they naturally let you touch them anywhere because in the wild they play like that lol i'm having trouble finding alot alot of info on them though.

i don't have any firsthand experience but i have heard they are like smaller, more mischievous B&G's. however, i have heard one before, they have some at my local pet store, and they are far from quiet. also, with lots of bonding and trust, I'm sure they could be very cuddly, but that depends on the individual. not all will be so willing to cuddle like that, but who knows :). all macaws are great birds for the right owner, but can be pretty bossy. i would spend time with adults and babies of various species to get a feel for the one you connect with most. volunteering at a rescue is also a great way to gain experience. good luck :)

Of the many macaws my friend Dave has, two are a breeding pair of Blue-Throats he just received. I had never been face to face with this species, but can say they are slightly smaller than B&Gs and have smaller beaks. They are sometimes mistaken for B&Gs but both the throat area and the ticking feathers on the face are blue, not black. Here is a good pic of one. Click on pic to enlarge.
