My macaw has been vomiting today. I know they can vomit when they are happy, but this seems different. He has vomited three times, and it is mostly liquid. Any vomiting experience with allergy or infection?

What has he been eating? Have his eating habits changed? Has he been less active lately? Is he sitting on perches normally and have his feathers been fluffed up?

If the vomiting continues I think you need to get him to an avian vet as soon as possible.

American Bulldog Mix,
If he's being lovey and starts nibbling your fingers or bobbing your head an vomits- I say not to worry- prob. just trying to feed you, but since you said it was liquid I'm thinking it was actual vomit and I'd personally get to the vet asap because our birds will do their best to hide any and all signs of weakness, and when it starts showing any signs, it's typically not good.

Do you have emergency animal medical clinics/hospitals in Norway or emergency services via telephone consult? If you do, I would try that. I do not have an answer for you other than if the vomiting or regurgitation is being presented to you, your macaw may be doing a mating ritual.....birds will also find toys or other objects stimulating and make regurgitations to those objects. Since you say that the presentations are mostly liquid, I really do not know, I'm an engineer and have never encountered this situation, just offering ideas you may not have considered.

I agree with Plax.

How old is your Macaw?

My Niko sometimes regurgitates (as does my YN Amazon), but when they do it's never pure liquid, there are solids mixed in, what they munched on last.

Thank you so much for writing me back! I gave him something for breakfast, but it was only a little taste, so i didn't think it mattered. Luckily he has not vomited again. The only thing to mention about his behavior is that he has been playing alot by himself. He's young, only 6months. After reading what you wrote, i will not do anything yet. I will watch for any more vomit or strange behavior.

Spencer vomited clear liquid once but it was because he drank a lot of water then started playing and flipping. I had him calm down and just watched him, he was fine once he settled down and relaxed.
