Morning Present!

So it has been a week and a half since I stumbled on to a B & G Macaw that needed to find a home and was removed from a lady that was evicted from her home. After some rough days and my persistance to sit by Waddles cage and talk to her she is finally playing and talking up a storm. I really thought she was taking to my husband and of course getting I was getting a little jealous.

This morning I went to talk to her after turning on my coffee pot like every other day and she let me rub her head and was just being so loving. Until.........the head bobbing ritual started and yup she attempted to feed me. YUCK but ow so sweet of her.

After that I nicely told my husband hey buddy she loves me now back off! :32: :blue1:

when I first read the title I thought the only morning present I get from my macaw is a LARGE poop! I'm glad you are having special moments with your bird!

That is so sweet. We are new parents too and my husband is the one who is working on the bonding. He was so excited this morning when she let him touch her without lungeing (sp). How easily we humans are pleased!

Omg every time today I go near her she gets on the bottom of he cage and starts regurgitating and if I go near the other bird she screams. So I went to sit by her cage and she keeps turning around putting her bottom area against the side of the cage. Is this hormonal behavior? None of my other bird have down this type of behavior before.

The foster people who we picked her up from said she was 7 years old.

How long will this last? It's like i set it off, she won't always won't to um "love me" all the time will she??

Each bird is different. With some of them, hormonal behavior tends to be triggered by things like the time of year, something that has changed or is new (e.g., some change with their cage or its contents), the amount of daylight they're exposed to and/or how much sleep they have been getting, and certain toys. If she doesn't start becoming violently aggressive toward you (or others) it likely won't be a huge problem. You might try changing around/modifying some of the things I've just mentioned to see if that reduces her excitement. In my experience the behavior can last for up to several weeks (even a couple of months), but once it ceases it can be triggered again out of the blue.
