Question Concerns about my macaw, Georgia. Please help?

Georgia, my B&G macaw, has been throwing up after her hand feedings today. We've done 2 hand feedings. She is 4.5 months old and has never done this. It isn't projectile vomit but rather a spitting up or a dribble out.... it happened several times after first feeding and once after the second feeding. Should I be concerned? Oh and she has been sneezing some lately. The only new event that has happened lately is that she went to the vet for a wing/claw trim but other than that nothing has happened.

I would call the vet and ask about it. Some sneezing is normal, but I dont know anything about hand feeding. I know from frequenting the forum that people usually weigh their babies often and regularly to assess whether they are gaining appropriately. I would consider this if you are worried she isnt getting enough food.

Yes, I agree. Please call your avian vet.

Do you weigh Georgia every morning, on empty crop? Has she steadily gained weight? Has she been introduced to foods, and if so, how does she eat on her own?

Re: Concerns about my macaw, Georgia. Please help?

You post caused me to catch my breath. I pray that Georgia is alright and if not that they can help her get well and strong again.

When I read your original post I thought she was doing what my Valentino does with his night feedings sometimes. He will pump while I am feeding him hand rearing formula though the syringe and sometimes he will cough and spray it all over my face and chest. I think he is eating too fast and I slow him down at that point. The first time it happened I thought I he was going to aspirate but I realized right away he was not and that never came into play. Now he does it on purpose because of the total shock and dismay displayed on my face. Valentino is very smart and picks up things so very quickly.

Again I will pray that Georgia is going to be alright. That she is alright and the ER vet will pronounce her a healthy baby macaw.

My thoughts and prayers are heavily with you tonight

Re: Concerns about my macaw, Georgia. Please help?

My vet said it could be because of the temperature or texture of the food.
But better to check. Hope it's just this. x
