Weaned baby or pre loved

Hi,

I am now planning on buying a macaw in the next few weeks. What I would like to know are the pros and cons between buying a weaned baby or buying a considerably cheaper bird of a web site such as pre loved. Would you say that alot of people lie about the birds they are selling or do you think people often have genuine reasons for selling them. Also, if I got one from pre loved what kind of age range is best to go for.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Shane,

I am gathering you are from the UK?? I know Preloved is a UK sight!

There are quite a few genuine sellers on there, but also there can be scammers .. You can normally tell when you speak to the person if they are genuine or not!

I purchased my Zon Codie from a breeder through Preloved and I would say that he is probably one of the best breeders out there:)

Unless you have prior knowledge or proper training, I would not go the unweaned route! One false move could be disastrous to the bird. Also you would need to make time to continue the feeding times established by the breeder as well. Keeping to a built upon schedule is also important with them. Good luck! :)

I'm not thinnking about getting an unweaned baby. I'm trying to decide between getting a weaned one or one that's a few years old and being sold by someone no longer able to care for them. My favourite advert I found for newly weaned baby's is below.

Preloved | young blue and gold macaw for sale in Stoke On Trent

And my favourite ads for older birds are below.

Preloved | blue and gold macaw for sale in Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Blue and gold macaw For Sale - Birds For Sale With Free Advertising on Birds 4 Sale UK

Preloved | blue an gold macaw forsale for sale in Huddersfield, England

If anyone has a spare moment would you be kind enough to take a quick look and see what you think.

Thanks
Shayne

I've had very good luck with rehomes, all 4 of my birds are rehomes. None of the previous owners seemed to have lied to us and over all we ended up with some great birds.

Meet the birds, that will tell you a lot about how truthful the owners are being. If they wont handle the bird, probably not as tame as they want you to believe.
