after thinking long and hard i have figured i would like to adopt a blue and gold macaw from a local animal rescue. i have experience with cockatoos(greater sulfer crested and goffin) , eclectus and jardine. im not worried about the care, but the first meet with the bird if the rescue feels he doesn't like me they wont release him to me. he is a 10 year old male one other owner. i have seen birds change attitude because of environment in good and bad ways. is there something i should do to give a good first impression should i bring a snack, should i ask to brought to a quiet room ?. any advise ? :confused:i need some luck :41:
my house is all bird ready i have been waiting a while i have an Aviary in back yard as well, i just really don't want to mess this up.
i can also read bird body language.

Does this rescue use volunteers...if so, is it close enough that you could do some volunteer work there & get to know the bird ? ? ?

This is great advice. I have been volunteering at two shelters since the start of of the year. I originally had no intention in rescuing a bird, I just want to help... Well, one the parrots has adopted me. :)

Though I am don't feel like I am ready, the shelter is providing me we all the support to help me in case I decide that this is good for me. Free bird, free cage and on going support. All because I have fun while I take care of the birds.

I think it is just as important to find the right shelter as it is in finding the right parrot.
