I read on here and in books that macaws scream at dawn and at dusk.. I know they do But its been a very very long time since I heard one of my birds scream...anyone else have silent birds..;)

The most noise I hear is at dusk ...My birds engage in rambling... (they start repeating words they know over and over for like 10minutes).. Then they are done for the night..

mine don't "scream" unless they want something, dusk and dawn is not an issue at all with them

My 2 year old Blue and Gold Macaw does NOT scream. The only time she ever screams is when she has a 'ngihtfright' which are thankfully few and far between these days.

My green Wing doesn't scream at morning and night, but sometimes in the afternoon will call out.

Spot is definitely more vocal in the mornings and evenings but she doesn't scream ever. With Vino, time of day doesn't seem to matter but she screams at my husband

When my macaw was young, he would scream at dawn at dusk. He has mellowed out as he aged and doesn't do it as often.

1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
Kiwi does vocalize around dawn and dusk (not terribly loud) and let's out the occasional contact call, be he's really very quiet for an amazon. He went through a screaming phase when we first adopted him, but we made it a top priority to quickly nix that behavior.

Teka~Red Lored Amazon 20 years old,. . Ruthie ~ 16 year old Ruby Macaw, . .
Both my Red Lored Amazon and my Ruby Macaw are very quiet. Ruby's are green wing hybrids, so I can't say what that impact is. They each make less than 2-3 minutes worth of total vocalizations in any day. Most of that is light chirps. 2-3 times a week they each may get upset about something and make a loud squawk. Since this is so rare we know it always means something. For Ruthie it's almost always that her water bowl is empty because she just bathed in it and she will never let her bowl get empty without telling us. We actually love that she lets us know. Teka only really squawks when he gets scared by something. So when he does, we find out what cause it and we remove that stimuli. The rest are mostly soft chirps because they want us closer to them.

The word spoiled comes to mind when we tell people these things. Yes we agree, for both sides. We have many pets and have learned to spoil them in a healthy manner and its great for everyone. Sometimes just not our pocket book. But if that is too much of an issue then we would not have gotten them in the first place.

There could be, she screams at him when he speaks. My hubby never raises his voice or yells. I think it could be his deep voice she doesn't like?

Sierra and Sam don't really scream. Daisy Jane on the other hand...she always screams during the warmer weather months, but there is always a reason. At least she sounds like a squeaky toy =)

I wish haha sydney is a loud one.. the only time he's consistently quiet is in the mornings. He's the worst when there's a lot of commotion in the house

My macaws are generally quite although they do scream when they see something out of the windows which is only naturally as they are "warning" me:)

My B&G never screams. He is only a 1 1/2 years old. He does babble sometimes at night before he goes to sleep but that's about it.

Coby is a Green Wing Macaw. He is seven years old. :0)
Coby's not really much of a screamer. In the mornings he'll chatter and that is usually when I learn that he has picked up new words but he doesn't scream. At night there isn't any behavior change when dusk comes on. He usually will only scream when I'm leaving for work and when I change his routine. For example, on Thursday I had a vet appointment for the dog after work. So instead of getting him out of his cage right after I walked in the door I grabbed a shower and changed my clothes so I could take the dog to the vet. It didn't take him long to figure out he wasn't getting out of his cage at the normal time and he definitely let me know his displeasure with the situation. LOL ;):D

Perfectly said!!! :D

Niko NEVER used to scream.....until I got Ripley. I knew Macs could be loud, but the first time Ripley let "lose" I heard church bells in my head, NO kidding! And then Niko imitated him. Now when the both of them go at it, I run upstairs, but it never lasts longer than a minute or two, and it's not on a regular basis either. :30:
