I love baby RFM pictures and Ramsey looks so healthy and ... PLUMPY! LOL I love the down feathers showing. They are so soft on a RFM I am always petting Valentino's "sweet spot" of down feathers the area from behind the drummy down to the beginning of the tail between the tummy feathers and back feathers...soooo...soft and fluffy.

So do you have his cage and all the stuff you need yet? What will you be feeding your RFM? Are you going to keep him flighted? Have him sent to you unclipped? Inquiring minds want to know...LOL

Noble isn't baby Ramsay adorable?

I have his cage up just not furnished yet but I do have his perches and toys. I dont want to put them in yet and collect dust.

I have a GW so Ramsay will eat the same as him. Everything lol

I want to have him flighted but me and the breeder agree for shipping and safety its better to clip and let them grow back. I have dogs and since he is smaller than my GW a scared baby in fight may not be a good thing.

What kind of toys does Valentino like?

I cant wait til he gets to come home. I never seen a red front in person I am very excited. And thank you everyone else for the adorable comments.

Ramsey is so adorable he makes my eyes water! SO CUTE! and innocent. Be aware that innocence does not last long at all. LOL

Wendy sent me Valentino unclipped as I asked. I cannot believe what a difference that made. As a baby who never met us before or been to my house he held a confidence I never saw in a baby parrot. I believe that is because he retained his power of flight and was allowed to really practice the skill while at the breeders. The confidence Valentino had helped him with the adjustment of new home and people. The only thing I really had problems with was him adjusting to his cage. He would pace back and forth on the grill and then would sleep roosted on the grill. It was like he hated the cage. I had to have him sleep in his carrier he was shipped in that was put up on my highboy dresser in my bedroom. This was done because I have a cat and I didn't want her licking him. After about four days he began to roost normally and he then started sleeping in the cage.

For my situation and what I wanted Valentino was never clipped. I also prepared my home for a flighted parrot and I have trained him for recall and fly him all over my home on both levels. I think to clip or not clip the flight feathers is a very personal thing. I have learned how flight is so important to the RFM so I wanted to keep my baby flighted. I think it also helped Valentino adjust faster because he was a very confident baby.

Wendy told me RFM's like soft plastic toys. She gave me the example of "Like the lids of the international coffee containers". She sent with Valentino's care package this toy

She got it from "Motherpluckin' Bird Toys" I hang it on his Java tree and Valentino plays with it every day. It is looking worse for wear and will need to be replaced soon. I also give him wood toys where the wood is cut thin. RFM seem to like soft plastic and thin woods to destroy. I have stainless steel bells in his cage AND one favorite is adding machine paper roll with a ss chain strung through it. He likes to TP his cage.

I am still figuring out what else to get Valentino for toys. I am trying to figure out what kind of "mind toys or foraging toys" to get him

Well although red fronts are smaller, most macaws I have owned or worked with did not like wood there size, my macaws usually stick to 1x6 which is very thing or a lathe like peice of wood like what noble has shown. I'd also say cardboard boxes and phone books my macaws love. They love bells and anything to make noise, I'm big on forgagin so my guys ether have a lot of it or are learning to forage with many forgaging toys in there cage. The plastic animals are great, but most of mine rip the poly rope before they play with the toy. I also give mine acrylic toys, most of them like to mess around and solve stuff with them, or bang them around lol!

Please put up pictures of what you make. I want to see what your bird likes and what he ignores that you make for him. I am probably going to have to take to making by hand since a lot of bird suppliers around here are no longer around. I like to see things before I buy them so that makes ordering stuff on line a challenge for me. I always feel like its a crapshoot when I order toys on line. "Is he gonna play with it. Is he gonna ignore it?" *sigh*

I already have a pile of stuff Valentino won't play with. I also want to try to figure out more foregoing type toys to put in his cage. He LOVES the hanging adding machine roll of paper and he will TP his cage daily. Lupe taught him how to unroll the paper.

The BELLS. I hear the bells ALL THE TIME. If you don't want to hear bell playing don't hang them in Ramsey's cage! Years ago I had taken left over chain and left over large bells from various toys and made a three bell hanging thing. Valentino loves that thing. He rings them while TPing his cage and chewing on his hanging wood.

I want more "thinking toys" in his cage. But there is the fine line of frustrating him and keeping his interest. I got to figure out what that is.

I did buy a SS bell for him. I have one for Toby my GW. I hope he likes toys. I have a stock pile here of over 50 toys. Of course alot are wood and my GW has had a go. I do have about 10 toys that are put away just for Ramsay. The other toys will be interchanged between the birds. I went to the dollar store the other day and bought a bunch of stuff. Plus I ordered over 600 toy parts from motherplukin toys. I am planning on ordering a big net from mysafebirdstore at the beginning of the month to. I dont have alot of money so refund time I bought alot of toys. Now I am into making them. I just got my order from knot and rope supply. I ordered 500 feet of hemp rope. I like to use as much rope as I can with Toby, he is a metal chewer.I also bought Ramsay a nut and bolts toy from mysafebirdstore. We will see.
