I everybody! I haven't updated because I have been very busy with life, and because Darcy doesn't really seem to have any behavioral problems!

For those who don't remember, or who didn't read when I got him: I was mourning Puck's passing, but keeping an eye out for another companion bird. One day, I got a phone call asking if I could foster a bird. It turned out he just landed on somebody's shoulder at a park one day. The person didn't know what to do with him, so they took him to a vet that treats birds, who kept him for a week (and left him alone there over the weekend :( ). A friend of mine went to the vet for another reason, and offered to take care of it until they found the owner. When my friend got home, her dad said she couldn't keep him, so I got a phonecall, and he was delivered later that night. :D

He (or she, still haven't tested) is well behaved and healthy. I think he is probably a boy because of how he poofs up and dances when he is happy and/or relaxed and/or sees somebody he finds interesting. He seems to gravitate toward men, especially if they're a little older, so I think his previous owner was an older man.

He's 95% potty trained! I didn't train him, do I don't know how to do it. He almost never poops on shoulders. He usually waits until I take him off (which I try to remember to do periodically).

He was a little bit shy with new people, but after a few trips out in public he warmed up. Now he will step up for most people. With some people he won't step up for, some people he is neutral, and some people he is NUTS about! Sometimes he sees somebody (usually an older man), he'll start displaying, and doing a silly dance. One time at FedEx he RAN down my arm and RAN across the counter and RAN up the guy's arm! He's also done this with a man at the local bird club I joined. :)

I've been taking him on hikes at a local park, which he seems to really enjoy. I've got him sweater trained, so when I got into someplace that serves food, I can get him to stay inside my sweater until I am done shopping. Sometimes he doesn't even want to come out of my sweater when I leave because he gets all snuggly in there.

He is so funny. He inflates his crop with air like a balloon when he's happy. He isn't very vocal, so he only says "Hi" and "Hello". He does kisses sometimes, and likes to lean into kisses when I kiss him. He's started to imitate our little dog crying, which is hilarious. I have to keep him away from the dogs though, because if they get too close he'll charge them and attack!

Despite not being a big talker, he is smart. I got him a harness, but it doesn't do ANY good because he unfastens it and takes it off in a couple minutes. He can also undo my big ball and chain necklace, and he fastened his Babble Ball (which he LOVES, perhaps because it sounds like him) from its chain. He also laughs at appropriate times in conversations, and when listening to the radio.

Also, this week I was able to clip his wings all by myself. He didn't enjoy it, but he only stayed a little irritated for about a minute, then he seemed to be over it.

Here are a few photos, but there are a bunch on his Facebook page, which you can find by searching for "Darcy Dirigible". Just send a message to say you're from the parrot forums.

I took a hike with him a few days ago. I put him in a sage bush (I make sure all the plants I put him in are safe to chew). He loved crunching up the dead twigs.

remy-albums-darcy-picture8475-party-beach.jpg

He likes the beach.

remy-albums-darcy-picture8476-darcy-loves-closets.jpg

Every time I take him in or near a closet, he wants to climb inside and hide.

remy-albums-darcy-picture8477-taking-sun-bath-not-fan-water-baths-but-sun-baths-cool.jpg

He isn't a fan of water baths, but sun baths are cool.

remy-albums-darcy-picture8478-darcy-kale-garden.jpg

I put him on the kale plants in the garden.

remy-albums-darcy-picture8479-darcy-front-house-blues-hollywood.jpg

We were driving around in Hollywood and I thought he needed a picture in front of the House of Blues. I also succeeded in embarrassing my boyfriend by doing this.

I love this one! This is in one of our orange trees.

I have become the crazy parrot lady. I have a lot of parrot decorations now. I have ceramics, wall art, jewellery... I just need some clothes with parrots. If anybody knows where to get some, let me know.

Apparently there is a 10 picture limit, but the forum computer apparently can't count. =P

He's gotten very good at staying in my sweater when I'm in stores. He likes it so much now that he rarely tries to get out, and often wants to stay inside, even though I have to get him out to drive.

PinkBirdy - It took some training. He wasn't crazy about it at first, but now he loves it. At first I could only keep him in there for a little bit.

BirdBrains - Darcy does that too. He's never actually regurgitated, but it's part of his inflation dance thing.

I use to have a Noble macaw and a Illiger's macaw that I would stuff down in my coat/hoodie, what ever I was wearing to hide them. They were good at staying hidden until they would hear voices. Once they heard me talking to someone all bets were off. Both parrots would then pop their head out and say "HIIIIIIIIIIIII!". More often than not they would scare the crap out of the person I was talking to.

I would shove them back inside and look at the person like nothing was a miss tilt my head and act innocent. Nope..you did not just see a parrot pop out of my coat.

LOL That is hilarious! Puck used to pop out when he felt like it. Darcy did at first, but not anymore.

Darcy is funny because he hold really still on my shoulder when I'm out and about, and many people have been startled when he moved, or when they simply noticed him on my shoulder! LOL

He IS colorful! The underside of his tail is yellowish.

He was liking the pier! I was ready to jump into the water if he fell. I didn't leave him there for long, haha. I love that picture though. That posturing that he's doing in that picture is associated with a particular squawk of his.

LOL I can't imagine doing it with a full size macaw. Darcy's tail feathers have been known to stick out from under my sweater a couple times, so I can only imagine. I think you should try it though! At least post a picture of you with him in your sweater. :D

Sometimes he does LOL. He might make kisses, or go "rrrrrrrrr", or make other parrot noises. One time at the grocery store he was acting restless, so I went it the bathroom to fix things, and when I unzipped the sweater he didn't move, he just started going "kiss kiss kiss kiss"... so I zipped back up and went back out and he just kept going "kiss kiss kiss kiss" underneath my sweater! He's so silly.

He's SO Cute! Love the Pics, especially in your jacket, adorable!

Spencer too enjoys an adventure in my closet, and he's developed this (bad) habit of climbing up on to each hanger and taking my shirts and blouses off, dropping them to the ground (wrinkling).
One day I was distracted by a phone call, he was very quiet, went into my closet and emptied 25 hangers! When I saw him and what he did, still in hanger emptying mode, my mouth dropped and he looked at me like, 'see mommy, I helped you with all this'. He was so proud, lol!

Thank you for sharing this post, I love all the pictures of your bird. I hope one day I will be able to take my bird around with me. She's still young and need training.

Cami - LOL that's funny! My closet is too jammed full for Darcy to do that. He likes to try and escape into my closet though.

Here is a video of him in my closet: [ame=http://youtu.be/HIPaP0tKRQ0]Darcy tries to escape into my closet - YouTube[/ame]

MissTaz - Start early! If I were you, I'd start harness training. Unfortunately for me, Darcy HATES one harness, and removes the other one!
