I've got a B&G macaw named Rocket(Rocky) that I brought home when he was 3 1/2 months old. That was back in October of '97. He'll be 16 on the 26th of July. One thing I've noticed over the past few years is his
head/beard feathers have been slowly changing colors.

Example....The green on the top of his head has extended back about an in or so. and the seperation of black to yellow from his beard to his chest colors now has a green hew to them.

But what I've noticed lately is that there is an ever so slight tinge of red in the feathers closest to his cere. My question.....Is this normal in an "older" bird?

Everything except the red feathers around the cere sounds normal to me. Are you able to take photos?

here is my friends 17 year old blue and gold. His black feathers do have a slight green tinge to them, especially where they overlap with the yellow. Please excuse his beak.

Hey thanks for the reply. I see your guy has the same red tinge on his head as well right between the nair(sp?) and the first vertical line of facial feathers as well.
