Will plucked feathers grow back?

Thinking of rescuing a B&G who has plucked feathers due to being left in a cage without much human contact. I've met the bird, and she's friendly, socialized, and pretty well behaved.

My question is will the feathers grow back if the bird finds a good home with good food, attention, and love, or are the feathers gone for good?

Any other things (other than obvious signs of disease or aggression) that I should look for?

Thanks

There is no way to tell for sure if the feathers will ever regrow. Sometimes they can, but if the feather follicles have been destroyed, then they wont.

May want to find out if this B&G has had a vet check up to ensure her health, or plan to take her to an a-vet immediately after you get her to ensure that she is in fact healthy.

Monica is correct, the feathers may grow back but if the feather follicles have been destroyed they will not. I know 2 people who had amazing experiences with featherless birds regaining feathers.

One was a abused African gray who only had feathers on the head. Poor bird was left out in the heat in Las Vegas, she now has all her feathers.

Another bird was a Mexican red head. When a acquaintance of mine rescued the bird she couldn't even tell what species it was because he had no feathers. His body was unable to produce them because of how unhealthy he was. After getting him on a excellent diet and letting his body reboot he made a full recovery and regained all his feathers. One of the most amazing stories.

Whether they do or not it still might be an extremely wonderful bird.

Well, Oscar's got PBFD so he's a bit different if the macaw don't have PBFD. So you need to be sure of it if you were to get the macaw. Cause a PBFD bird can NOT be around other birds period!!!!
