I know i know, yet another thread

Ages ago, i saw a video of the trick of a bird doing a summersault on the ground... and for some reason, i thought oh damn, i cant teach Fargo that, his tail is too long :(
But then i realised, umm his tail wouldnt get in the way!

So this afternoon, i thought we would give it a go!
We sat on the floor, i put the treat between his legs, and then flipped him over :p

Usually it takes him a few short sessions to figure out what he actually has to do... but today, i helped him about 5 times, and then all i had to do, was put the treat between his leg, and he flipped over!!

Even im surprised how quickly he figured it out!!

It should be a few more sessions until he doesnt need the treat under his legs, so he will just do it on a voice and hand gesture command!

But this is trick number 19 !!! He is working on hiding his head under his wing, so we will soon be at 20 :D

Here is at the beginning, helping him over, i know you arent meant to touch down near his tail, but hes a baby and he is too focused on training to worry about anything else

Then with just the treat under legs

Soon after he learnt to do it, just a little bit of help:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QPzMGUNE70&feature=youtu.be"]Fargo summersault training 1 - YouTube[/ame]

Then doing it by himself:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SqsZNLv3Os&feature=youtu.be"]Fargo summersault training 2 - YouTube[/ame]

Love that he trusts me so much

AND he was just in the best mood today, was extra extra cuddly and cute.. He climbed into the blanket and tucked himself in

Nice trick Tab :) Fargo is just amazing !

I just wonder, why you shouldn't touch them down the tail? I have been doing this for a long time when we play (like "preening" her feathers and stuff) so I really wonder.

Thank you :D Cant believe he caught on that quick haha

Apparently, well so i have read in MANY comments on the forum, it makes them very hormonal or something along those lines and they see you as a mate :p
Like at the top of their tail, and the bottom of their belly!

I play with Fargo everywhere, he doesnt mind me touching any place, and i always help preen all his pin feathers, so i havnt had problems, but he is only young

INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Gosh he learned that one with lightning speed!!! :D

Fargo is SO clever, but KUDOS to you, Tab!!! If he were with anybody else, he would NOT be doing what he's doing now. ;) He just wants to please you all the time and show his love and devotion to you, too. :)

LOVE the picture of you holding him up in the air while he's on his back!!! :D

Hahaha Thank you Wendy!! :) i am still amazed, i know Fargo is clever, but today he must of decided to be a genius!! :09:

But he was in an amazing mood, was running around on the floor chasing after me, giving lots of kisses, and just being really cuddly..
Even though he has SOOO many pin feathers at the moment, i would think he would be so uncomfortable :( Just above his crop, there is 9 yellow pin feathers, just in a pile, then another section under his neck has 5 in a clump! Poor boy..
But he certainly made me have a great day!!

It was funny, cause me and Josh always argue who is smarter, his son, or Fargo.. and on the weekend, josh would say 'summersault!' and nicholas would get into position with his head between his knees and wait for josh to tip him over..
So i cant wait to send Josh the picture of Fargo doing a summersault as well :09:

Holy smoke! It is fabulous to see Fargo and you at work.

I'm working on getting Skittles to step up and it is a royal battle ... that I'm losing!

I think I heard Birdtricks.com indicate that the more tricks you can teach your fid, the stronger the bond they have with you and learning more becomes easier.

Either way those of us newbies out here are jealous of the bond you have with Fargo (I'll bet more than a few of the more experienced bird owners are too!)

Hmmm, is this your notice that you'll be starting a thread on "...the excuses I use..."

Umhmmm, although English may not have been Mom's native language, you have been learning, studying, enjoying its quirkiness for how many years now ? ? ?

No, you complained/excused not yet being awake.........

Hehe Thanks :D

LOL Here Fargo is, rolling around, and Skittles wont even step up ! ;) Just keep trying, patience is the key! Especially with their smart little brains they are training US haha

Well i think what birdtricks said is true, it seems he is learning quicker than he did a few months ago.. it took him along time to figure out how to roll over!

Thank you  I feel pretty special i got to bond with Fargo!
