Catalina Macaw

My daughter has a beautiful Catalina Macaw that she rescued from a pitbull breeder three years ago. The bird is 5 now she had it tested and checked at an avian vet when she got the bird. The bird is a female

The bird has a sweet personality but is alittle skiddish to people she does not know.

My daughter's lifestyle has changed and she can no longer keep the bird. my daugher and the bird live with me. My daughter will be moving soon and I cannot keep the bird as I travel for work and am gone quit a bit.

I am at a crossroads on what to do with the bird. I have become attached to the bird and want the absolute best for it. The idea of giving it to a rescue or an unknown person on craigs list is out of the question.

I live in So California. Any ideas??

We are not interested in selling the bird just want to make sure she has a forever loving home that she deserves....

In a Catalina? I doubt it. I haven't heard a single word from her, so I'm "assuming" she's sticking with the DYH from Irena.

I would try to find a home on here. I got a Goffin off a craigslist [I was looking for a cage ] . The owners were upset ,they felt everyone they talked to was looking to flip the bird [which Im sure happens a lot].

Good luck, I think you're doing the right thing, just be weary of 'bird flippers'. Make sure you vet the people out - maybe even ask for a vet reference too

I can probably vouch for most members on here though if you find someone here for her

Have you contacted a Bird Club in your area. Bird Club Members are not flippers. I'm sure they can find your Macaw a great home. Best of luck

She WILL NOT go to a bird flipper. I am only making this known to reputable forums with responsible members such as all of you.

I am not in a hurry. The main and only objectve is to find her a good home. This is tough for all of us because she is such a sweet bird with a great personality!!

We only have two resuces that are local to us and I do not want to surrender her to a rescue. We would prefer to know the family taking her so we can be assured that she will be well taken care of and loved

Good luck MacawFan.....of course I would have to live on the East Coast....otherwise, I would have loved for you to do a home inspection.......I would have taken her in a second!....Sounds like you will definitely find the right home...

How far south are you? I was going to adopt a B&G this weekend but it did not work out. I am a long time bird owner with macaw experience.

Wow, that would be a 9 plus hour drive for me. How does she do with change and new people/places? What I am looking for is a bird I can work with and take to schools as a education bird. I wish I was closer, I could come do some visits.

You only about an hr from me. Wow wish there was something I could do to help, or someone I knew locally.

I do know that you can put the bird on consignment at Birdsmart, in Clairmont Mesa. They will evaluate your bird and find a good home. The owners are really nice people.

Then there is Our Featherd Friends off Rainer, sorta near Qualcomm and their sister store Bird Haven in Escondido. The employees are really nice people, and very knowledgable, but don't know who the owners are.

You can always call each place and talk to them and see what they say. Wish I knew someone personally, or my circumstances were different. Hope it all works out for you and your precious bird.

She is pretty tough until she gets to know you then she is a fun bird. She has a little temper and wants her way, but I thnk that is normal for a macaw.

We rescued her from an abused home and she is a little wary of new people. I have worked with her the most and I can do just about anything with her. She always wants to be in the same room with me or she will have a tantrum unit I give in. she also wants to eat whatever you are eating or she gets a little upset.

If someone is patient with her she will bond and be an affectionate bird but it may be a little tough going until she trusts you.
