Injured Macaw Beak

My macaw had a hole in the top center of his top beak when I got him. Casey is 12 years old and also has a healed broken wing that he can't spred. The man did not tell me of any injuries when he gave him to me so I have no idea what happened.

My question is, will this hole eventually go away? This is my first Macaw and I don't know if the beek can grow untill the hole is gone or not.
Thanks,
Eppie & Casey:blue1:

Beaks do continually grow... but a hole in a beak is a serious thing, have you had a vet check it out?

Sometimes a hole may just be an injury (which is bad enough), but there are also beak diseases which will make parts of the beak essentially rot away - these are very dangerous and require medical treatment.

Darn! Hit the wrong key! Anyway it is a chip with a small hole in the center it doesn't seem to go all the way through. I took him to the aviary that raises Macaws for beek, nail and wing clip and he did not seem too concerned with the beek. So if it is not a disease will it grow out?
Thanks for your prompt reply.

Generally it would/should grow out, but it can be pretty slow. This doesn't seem like anything to worry about yet, keep an eye on it to be sure it isn't getting worse.
