Hi! As always, any post I have with a photo will always start the same way;
GEE, I HOPE THE PHOTO COMES THROUGH!

Anyhow, if it did, this is a photo of our new baby. He is a three month old Military Macaw. His daddy named him Wingnut.

We are currently occupied with enjoying him to bits.

He has been pretty awesome so far. Really affectionate. As with every day I spend with birds, I am learning a lot.....now on a bigger scale. Always trying to balance what the bird wants, with his or her development, and training.

Can't wait to spoil the poop out of both of them on Christmas!

Ha, you know Wingnut is a nickname in Oz for somebody with big ears? It's also the name of LOTR/Hobbit producer/director Peter Jackson's company... he may have been a wingnut as a kid. Presumably, your macaw doesn't have big ears so Wingnut comes from another feature :)

Yes it does!! My boyfriend is in the US Navy, and seeing as how the baby is a Military Macaw, we wanted a military-esque type name. We didn't want to be pretensious or boring, so we started looking up all sorts of things.

Apparently, US Airforce fighter pilots all have "Call Names", which are nicknames essentially. Looking through a list of them, we fell upon WINGNUT, and thought it encompassed most of what we were looking for in a name for our baby :)

Also, Mike 17, I've been fortunate enough to have visited your beautiful country twice (so far) and I have to say, you truly live in one of the worlds most lovely places. From the natural beauty, the culture, to the people, I love everything about Australia!
