River (RiverSong) --> Blue and Gold Macaw
BOY!

I honestly did not care if River was male or female.
I'm glad River is gender neutral, BUT I did name her...err Him, after RiverSong...

Would it be awful if I kept referring to him as a she?
Its habit, and I keep catching myself saying she still.

I don't want to change the name River.
my dad keeps giving me a hard time say's he's gonna call him Rover. =( and makes all dude remarks such as "hows it hanging" "Whats up man" "I'm a real boy" etc.

Like I said, the gender of River does not matter to me. I love my baby.
We'll just have some moody spells during breeding season instead of eggs in the future. But at least I won't have to worry about eggbound problems =)

What do yall think?

I think the name River still fits as a boy's name just fine! :)

River is a cool name, and he's a beautiful bird :)

I also keep catching myself accidentally saying "she" when referring to Raven who is a boy. I had another Bronze Winged Pionus before Raven, and it was a female Adrion who passed away. I think it's just ingrained in me now to say "she" and "her" for a Bronze Winged. It's bad enough my boys are named Robin and Raven, and everyone including the whole vet office hears the names and always thinks they're girls... :(

I really like the name River; and it works well either male or female.

We always considered Guacamole was a boy. A few years ago my Mom had them run the test while they were trying to figure out why 'he' chewed on his ankle. Turns out 'he' was really a she. It took me quite a while to be consistent referring to Guacamole as a girl. But it happened. And I'm glad to know; so many owners don't. It is really a personal decision though. Your bird probably won't know the difference.
Great photos! Did you take them?

River is a VERY suitable name for a guy! :D And what a handsome boy he is!! I'm cracking up laughing at your dad's remarks, because that is something my 2 (grown) boys would say. My kids would go "I'm a REAL boy", in Pinocchio's best voice. :D

I love the name River--I do tend to think of it as a boy name because I associate it with the actor River Phoenix.
