I posted this in the food section also, but no repsonses so far.

I was given a huge back of the Japanese walnut/heartnut.
I cannot find anywhere that says whether or not this is a parrot safe nut.
Anyone know?
Thanks

Wow, I'm sorry to have to say I don't know, but they're pretty looking!
They do look like walnuts. I think it is probably such an unusual nut that you may not get any responses :( Have YOU tried them? If it tastes just like a walnut then I "personally" would feel confident feeding it, because tree nuts that we eat aren't toxic. To make you feel more comfortable, I'd google it and see if you could find more information on the nut in general. The main concern about nuts especially in the shell is mold which can give a fungal infection to birds. Even mold you may not be able to see with your eye.

No idea at all, but those look thick enough that they would give my mac a good work at getting the nut inside. There are no nuts I can find that make him work for it.

When I tried the nuts, they tasted good. I haven't given any to River yet.

Have you tried macadamia nuts yet?
