I think i have gone a bit bird crazy and now both of my girls will be in school full time come august...

so i have been talking to some rescue organizations about macaws...
one thing that came up was the poop.

now i can clean up cockatoo and ekkie poop like a champ, i don't cringe when it gets on a shirt or a couch. i just get up and grab the rag and vinegar.

i heard macaw poo was HUGE and not an easy clean and that may sadly be the deciding factor in being a macaw owner. soooo.....does anyone have any macaw poo pics??? maybe a single doosey or the bottom of their cage? lol....sorry!

sometimes my birds have an accident on the carpet and its just instinct to grab a paper towel and cleaner and carry on....but im hearing with a macaw poo it just isnt that easy? (where talking spot bot needed) and how often do they go? thanks so much, sorry for such a gross topic!

Macaws do come in different sizes.... so you could easily get a macaw smaller than Mango and Opal! Or one larger than each! Maybe one around the same size?

So it may help to know the kind of macaw you may be looking at getting!

I won't post any poop pictures, but I can tell you that the "size" of the dropping will vary greatly, depending on the bird. I have both a GW and a B&G, and they are about the same size. Niko's droppings are tiny compared to Ripley's, and they are on the exact same diet.

Why? Because Niko relieves himself a whole lot more often than Ripley.

Ripley's morning poop is atrocious. I RUN to the kitchen with him, in hopes he'll make it to the counter (that's pretty easy to clean). I can't tell you how many times he didn't quite make it and let's lose on the way to the kitchen. :54: It splatters on my slippers, pants, floor, tiles, AND the counter - all at once.

wow, the splatter radius is amazing!
That sounds like our little pork chop. He waits until his cage is open for his morning poo and it can sometimes rival the bigger birds! I just started bringing the little trash can in when i come get him, because he wont give me time to do the run lol!

Ahhh...there is nothing like a RFM relaxing perched on your leg all fluffy and suddenly you feel something warm and wet running down your leg.

You gotta love them.

While watching TV the parrot is relaxed and mellow on the shoulder and something warm is on your back. You turn your head to see what that is and the solids smear in your ponytail.

You have to love them.

Its a beautiful morning and time for your shower. In the event of multitasking you take your parrot into the shower with you. Both are having a good time with singing, flapping, the parrot is so wet you can see the skin and as he is perched on your hand a HUGE watery dookie is freed from the bird into your foot. It runs between your toes as you try as fast as you can to rinse it away.

You gotta love him because he is all yours!

HAHA! Oh my, definitely burst out laughing to this! I'm pretty sure every parrot owner can relate to this, but you definitely can't help but laugh about it in the end, especially when you put it in terms like this, hahaha! :D

Hahn's macaw, RIP George, Jenday Conure
I take Hahnzel into the bathroom with me and he poops the first morning poop (FMP) into the toilet. No cleaning needed!
