Okay some esplainin'

First of all the only one of those birds that is mine is the Red Front. Maggie happened to be in the tree at the time that photo was taken. The other three wouldn't stay in the tree cuz we'd rather be lap birds... I was "bird sitting" two macaws that weekend. The last one is of baby tidbit, the BTM that was still hand feeding. (My friend needed an experienced handfeeder she could trust.) Like me, her birds are "outside" trained.

What I learned that weekend, was that even one more macaw, would be one to many. They all wanted to play and be held all the time. My two are fine on their own. But not with two others getting picked up, if they don't. No fair! That's my dad! I was here first. So, pick one up, pick all four up. Nothing much got done that week...

NOW, here's the funny part, that will show you just how mechanical BFM's are. This bird was only a couple of months old, and not even "all there" yet. So I handfed Tidbit some formula, and then put him to bed DOWN STAIRS, IN HIS CAGE, WITH THE DOOR CLOSED, AND LATCHED.

About thirty seconds after I sat down upstairs again I heard wing flapping, and the pitter patter of little feet. Then, that silly bird didn't even slow down to aim... he just charged up the stairs, up my leg, and tucked his little head under my chin. My daughter took the pic.

I'm not even Daddy to that bird... :D

I've got a bunch.

Including the skateboarding conures, the birdie basketball court, the birdie bowling night, etc... Lots of good tree shots. Some particularly good cuddle bird shots. Some pretty good flying shots...

I just have to send them to someone to help me post.

As you can see from my threads, I'm starting to make topics, and write posts to put them. Trying to get organized and motivated this weekend.

Yeah.

Isn't it a pity that macaws are such ill mannered, foul tempered aggressive, can't be trusted on your shoulder and near your face birds...:D

I mean TWO of those birds aren't even mine, and had only known me for a few hours at that point....

I have always said, there is a "macaw gene," and the birds themselves know who has it and who doesn't...

My daughter and I both have it.

If you know how to handle them, they respond to you.

Tidbit is a very special little bird. And he is one of the smartest birds I've come across. You don't even have to show him things. He can look at it, watch you, watch another bird, and 30 seconds later he will figure out how to take it apart, and put it back together...

AND he's an under the chin bird... Has been from the time he hatched!

BTM's are one of my favorites!

You haven't seen my real "quality" outside shots yet... these were just a couple of pics I happened to have on my phone.

The best is still to come. This is just a tease...

Awesome pics Mark :D Thanks Joe for getting them on here :) looking forward to more, along with your great stories!

I've heard that about BTM, how scarily mechanical they are! They're Beautiful. I think (visually) my favorite macs are Blue Throated, Red Fronted, Illiger's.

I don't think I personally have the 'macaw gene' you speak of :( I can just tell that my hubby does, even though he doesn't have much bird experience. I think he'd do well with a Macaw if he had the time.

Lovely pics! I am working my way up the parrot chain so to speak, but Macaws are so fun to watch and learn about their personalities. Thanks for sharing!
