hospital cage

My blue and gold macaw broke her leg and is at Texas A&M icu after having a pin put into her leg yesterday. Does any one know how to make a hospital cage for a blue and gold? No bars allowed. Most birds use old aquariums with a mess net on top nothing available for macaws. Need it by tomorrow.
She doing very well today. :blue:

Hopefully she will mend soon. I do not have an answer to your question, but hopefully some of our wonderful macaw parronts will have an idea for you.

Glad you had access to such great veterinary care. I want to say one of those heavy duty Rubbermaid tubs, but I'm not sure a mac wouldn't eat it.

i was thinking about using one of those not sure if it is tall enough for her to not try to pull herself out and fall. thanks for the idea i will look into it further we have one in the garage.

a 40 gallon breeder fish tank with a screen cover would probably work. They are very wide.

You can buy large "clear" plastic tubs that sometimes come with clear lids. Drill some holes in it for air circulation.

Likewise, you might want to look into small animal cages or dog kennels and use some plexiglass sheets inside to prevent climbing?

Thank you all, I will check the costs of the aquarium. Did not realize there was a breeder aquarium. I also will be going to lowes and checking out the plexiglass and cage idea. One of these has to work. Thanks

We ran slats through the bars of a cage to make a floor. Could be done for walls too. Had to keep recovering fid from falling to bottom of cage. Worked.

PERFECT solution, IMO. Run slats through the cage and put a piece of wood up high to decrease the overall height, then use sheets of plexiglass all around to prevent your B&G from using the cage bars.

Plexi is easy to work with. You can either have it cut to size or cut it yourself. Drill a few holes and use Sisal to fasten the plexi sheets to the cage bars (on inside of cage)

Instead of using slats, one could also get a piece of wood cut to the inside measurements of the cage. Then, using perches that span the width or length of the cage, use those as the supports for the wood.
