We have a 4 year old female green winged macaw named Mickey. In the last 6 months her red chest feathers started to disappear (no picking) and grey clusters started to appear. The vet ran all tests with no bad results. We changed cages from a powder coated one to a new stainless steel one. Plenty of toys, blocks, never seems bored. We take her out every afternoon and put her on a separate playpen and spent time with her. We feed her Harrison pellets which she loves, and plenty of veggies and certain fruits. She gets her required seeds per day. No one seems to know why she is having this problem. Even her tail feathers have not grown in the last 6 months. Please help. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

"Dixie"LSC2, and "Nico" Scarlet Macaw.
Does she not have any tail feathers at all or not all of them have come back yet??? When they fell out was it intact with the base of the feather or does it have a broken base? She had to have been plucking her chest if her chest feathers haven't grown back yet with just the fuzzes left. Have you had her tested for PBFD???
