I am the proud owner of a Dusky Pionus, An African Grey, A Mullocan Cockatoo, A a Blue and Gold Macaw
I have been blessed to adopt a B&G from a lady who was too stressed out to "deal" with her...I was told she was loud, very agressive, and had been locked into a cage with another bird (a U2) for many months. The cage was small and unclean, her foods were not fresh, and the room she was kept in was infested with gnats. When I saw her she looked pitiful, sad and unkept. And on top of it all had a severe case of scissor beak. I have had her now for about 3 weeks and she is truly adjusting well. No aggression. Has been uncaged during the day for most of the time here. Eating well, fresh fruits and veggies, seed, nuts and a various array of snacks. I have never had a macaw before so I am asking for any information or advice you can give me that would help me care for her better!:blue:

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but congrats on your new fid!:D Macaws are absolutely georgous. She was lucky to find you!:D

There are lots of macaw parronts here who would be glad to give advice. You can also browse through the macaw section, which I'm sure you already have;)

Hey again SM, well it sounds like your on the right track to brining Sophie back to the life every pet bird deserves, and out of the hell she was in, what you have to look forward to now is the possible 50+ years of the terrible twos with a bigger fid:p.....lol

I'm stealing some advice from SpiritBird...I think she's busy moving so someone needs to say it, right?

Get a copy of Parrots for Dummies.

I really didn't think that it would be as informative and easy to follow as it is. It's a wonderful resource for all but the most experienced bird guardian. We found a copy for my in-laws at a used bookstore for $8 and a new copy from Amazon is $11.55 + shipping [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Parrots-Dummies-Nikki-Moustaki/dp/0764583530/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278506864&sr=8-1]Amazon.com: Parrots For Dummies (9780764583537): Nikki Moustaki: Books[/ame]

Oh lucky, lucky you and lucky Sophie (if this is her name - I'm assuming it is) to have found you. She must think she has died and gone to heaven lol.

I adore macaws but unfortunately don't have the space for one. From what I have heard from another macaw owner is that you have to be assertive with them but really they are gentle giants. Pictures please???
