- Miligold macaw, cockatiel... Also co-exist with an African grey (husband's bird)
About 2 years ago I decided it was best for Matty, my miligold macaw, to be rehomed. I felt it was sincerely in her best interest to be with somebody that could give her more attention and time. At the time my son was between 3 and 4 and Matty absolutely hated him. I feared for him losing a finger, despite my best efforts of supervision. (My son loves animals, and has a hard time keeping his distance sometimes.) Despitr the ache in my heart, I made the difficult decision to find a new, caring home for her. The first person was great to her, just never was able to bond with her, so along came her next owner with whom she did eventually bond with. Both were great to her and I kept in touch with them for awhile. I had some issues with my email getting hacked and lost touch with the second owner. A couple of weeks ago I had an epiphany and I looked up the second owner on Facebook (I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of it sooner). To make a long story less long, we both decided Matty should come back. I was ecstatic, to say the least. She is back and it is almost like she never left. The next day after returning home she was back to "feeding" me. I am so fortunate that she had wonderful people in her life, who loved her. However, I do feel bad that it probably caused some heartache on the other end.
I know some will probably think I am a horrible parront, but I did what I thought was best at the time. My son is thankfully more respectful of her large beak than he was. My husband is not thrilled, but he will get over it. Nonetheless, Matty is home where she belongs and I am happy to have her here.
