Illiger's macaw owners

I had a male Illiger's macaw Diego for 9 years. Sadly I lost him to a stroke in June 2011. I still miss that boy and always will. He was one of the best companions and I enjoyed Diego every day. He was not a screamer or plucker or biter. At his worst he would grab my finger and put light pressure on it or hang onto my finger and drum his tongue on it. The only thing slightly painful Diego did to me was his weird fetish of standing on my arm and dragging his beak across my knuckles. The black beaks of parrots are more hard than horn colored beaks.
I use to do a lot of public speaking with Diego. The last time I had him in out in public was when I had to do a oral presentation in my master level writing class. My project was about living with parrots (called "The Parrot Chronicles") and I brought Diego to class and had him up in front of the class with me. He stole the show and I got a A in the class. What was really funny was it was also a pot luck so there was food everywhere. While waiting my turn to give my presentation the little freak would sneak across the table and steal food from my classmates. I was so attached to Diego I don't think I could ever have another Illiger's. I took his passing very hard and had to seek help to recover from it.
Please enjoy your baby Illigers. Once you have won their heart they are your best friend forever. Diego was mine until the day he passed. Once they begin to cuddle wrestle you have won over one of the most loyal parrots I ever lived with.

Your macaw was really beautiful
My illeger's is a really sweet bird, but sometimes still tries to bite me, only when she's playing though. They love to play everywhere, and like loud sounds or music so she can dance. Thank you for your reply, there aren't a lot of people with an illeger's macaw, while they're so sweet and beautiful Most Reactions
