I have to get a travel cage that is not my current collapsable, wire dog kennel. The dog kennel is fine for short vet trips when I have two people to help me move it around.... But I need something that one person can handle. Whether for an emergency (the travel cage will be in the house, already ready to go and not having to be set up as the kennel necessitates) or when I am alone without help.

I am looking at the Kings Cages aluminum large carrier or the Perch and Go acrylic carrier in macaw size. They are close to each other as far as price ($50 difference give or take) so I'm at a loss to make a real decision.

Please give me suggestions, opinions and ideas for the best decision to make. Materials, etc.

Thanks in advance. Additional information: I don't want acrylic in case it's too hot, but a wire acrylic mix would be ok.

When I was looking for a travel carrier I was like you, I wanted an easy one that just I can handle. I found this at Walmart It works well for the short trips to a vet and is long enough so not to mess up the feathers, I just lay a towel down inside for her, she hasn't tore up the sides (yet) :32: but it is serving its purpose for now. The cost isn't to bad, $45 and it collapses to about 5" thick.

May see about making one of the acrylic ones too. Not sure what I like yet, or what Phoebe will like. I too have a large dog crate at the moment. Will keep you posted on my projects. Will hopefully start one in the next couple weeks. I have another welding project for my mom that take priority atm..

Thanks guys for all of your suggestions.

I have discovered that not all bird travel carriers are available for the macaw sized birds! There is plenty available for the Amazons/cockatoos and smaller, but the macaw tail makes travel very complicated.

Hi,

I think that you have posted in the wrong thread. This one is for discussion of macaw travel cages/carriers.
