I couldn't locate my Eclectus' legband on any of the registries, but I posted it to the legbandnumbers yahoo group and someone recognized it. They emailed a friend who emailed their friend who turned out to be my breeder. If you don't have luck with the online databases, try there.

CAG - Willis T.
Greenwing - Auggie
Harlequin - Connie
Blue&Gold - Charly
How old is your bird? My CAG was bred in Fl and his band # is similar to yours. On his band the 1st letters identify the breeder the next is Fl for Florida, then comes 94 the year he was born. Some bands also tell in which order the chicks hatched, i.e. 1, 2, or 3 ect.

So you have a bird that was born in Florida, in 2000, to a breeder's whose ID is JD. The 18 and the 12 could identify the pair and the baby (it could be something like your bird is the 12th baby from the pair number 18).

Hi Brandon and welcome to the forum, the two things that stand out as pretty certain is the FL for Florida and the 00 for a 2000 hatch, the JD will be the breader ID the 12 18 could be month and day of hatch, but I don't think so ,closed bands have to be put on in the first few weeks after the chicks hatch, unless the breader makes their own, or have a band maker with really quick turn around time its unlikely, as mentioned the yahoo groups are a great resource for finding band info.......

I don't think the breeder would be able to tell you that.

I agree, the breeder wouldn't be able to tell you that. Having them DNA'd is really not that expensive, and it's the only way to know for sure in most parrots.

I'm not sure your breeder will be able to tell you the sex of your fid as DNA testing wasnt as common for baby birds 10 years ago as it is today,or as inexspensive, today you can do it for less than $20 and have the results back in just a few days, and its as easy as just clipping your birds toenails......

What Pet store did you get your African grey from. Did they come with paper work to show who the breeder was or perhaps what state your Parrots came from. Normally the letters will either be the state where the breeder lives or the Breeder's first and last name. The numbers have many meanings. Thanks Joe
