So we have brought her home, she is doing so well, exploring and talking up a storm. She was thought to be a boy (hence the name Harvey), but was recently DNA sexed as a female.

I wasn't sure about another bird so soon after getting Davy, but I couldn't say no to her, and now I am thrilled she is here, and Davy even seems excited and talking up a storm.

Isn't she beautiful? (sorry about the sideways picture) :blue1::green:

So beautiful! Congrats on your new addition. It's always so exciting to welcome a new bird home, and it's so nice to hear that Davy is excited too.

The first night then morning have been interesting lol. She loves my boyfriend, let him pick her up, pet/preen etc. She isn't so fond of me. When we brought her home, she let me get her out of the carrier and put her on a stand until we got her cage put back together, but she lunges and holds up her wings every time I get close, and her face is flushed red/pink when I am near. She also regurgitates food for my bf. So I will have to work with her more once she settles down, without him in the room I think.

I have already gotten bit a few times lol, nothing horrible though, she mostly bluffs with me.

She is much more active than Davy is, Davy is content to sit on his cage and chatter to us. Harley is ALL over the place exploring, she already chewed up part of a blanket :) But it is good to see her getting used to her surroundings.

I will be scouring the forum for tips so she gets used to me as well, at least to the point of not attacking when I come near. She did have a moment while sitting in my bf's lap, she let me preen her, so I think there is hope.http://www.parrotforums.com//www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
I'm going to take a wild guess, and say this bird's person was a man, and he has transferred that bond to your BF...

You just have to be firm and consistent with the no biting, two fingers on the beak, and let him get used to being handled by you... When he lunges, calmly push back with a closed bent fist, so there's nothing he can latch onto.

You don't intimidate me bird. And I'm not going to sit here and let you bite me.

DO THAT CONSISTENTLY, THEY STOP TRYING.

Thanks everyone!

Birdman, yes she was the husband's bird, the wife could sometimes handler her, but the wife was somewhat fearful of her, and would always back down.

I have been doing those things, but she does get a hold of my wrist when she lunges, she got me once pretty good, but I am not backing down, usually it ends with her going back inside her cage. She raises her wings when I come near too. I got the two finger grip down when she bites, learned that with Davy, and that has reduced his biting down by so much. We haven't even had her 24 hours yet, so I am sure things will get better. It is a bit discouraging, but I know with a lot of hard work, it will get better.
