Im taking my severe Pepper to the beach to show her the ocean. We already have harness training down cold but I was looking for any other lessons learned from anyone else who may have tried this.

What a good idea!

After having harness training down, you shouldn't really have to worry about anything. I don't see any reason for further training.

Good luck, and have fun.

How are you BT? Have not heard from you in a while. Welcome back to us.

I've been around but mostly from my work pc which is why i don't log in but i keep up with the threads. Pepper turned a year old back in June she getting big and filling out. I let her grow out her flight feathers. She's still kind of a clumsy flier but getting the hang of things, like descending. Going up easy for her but she doesn't get that she can coast or come down. We're working on it.

That sounds like sooo much fun! :D

I cant give advice about a parrot but I can tell you that the ocean scared the living daylights out of my iguana! I think the waves (I dont know if you have waves) and the amount of water was too much for him. He did however love the lagoons and I had to run after him and dived in with him - he was on a leash. My husband had to retrieve us with a row boat.

Please remember to take some photos and enjoy it!:D

As you can see by my avatar I take my Greenwing to the beach all the time. I live in Fl. so its 12 months a year. As a matter of fact we just got back from the Jupiter Inlet. Lots of surfers thanks to Earl. My advice would be not to take him if its too windy and don't go too close to the water. Auggie (my Greenwing) flew all the way back to the parking lot the first time i walked down to the water. Now he's OK with being near the water if its very calm. I love taking both Auggie and my CAG to the beach we go about 6 to 7 days a week. I have become some what of a local celebrity down here, its really a lot of fun. Good luck.

Just got back this morning. Had a great vacation. Took a lot of nature walks and walks around town with Pepper. When we were at the beach i walked too close to the water and Pepper flew back toward the shore. She let out a little yelp as she left my shoulder which got the attention of all the gulls and sand pipers who quickly came over to investigate. Spent alot of quality time with Pep and it seemed to really strengthen our parrot/person relationship. For some reason the URL's for my flickr page aren't linking the pics so i'll just link the site. Feel free to check out all the pics which are from the last year or so.

I am a GREAT fan of taking my birds to the beach. Mostly I take Clifford and Kayko together as they get along pretty well. Both birds are kept well (ten feather) trimmed and are not interested in flying. The only bad experiences I have had were one time I had my back to the ocean and when a big wave came up Clifford hopped off into the surf. He got all wet and sandy. Some people take dogs to the beach and not on leashes which could be a problem, but for the most part everybody wants to see them. This is Jacksonville Florida in the upper northeast corner of the state

Did you have Pepper since he was young? I just got an adult. She is very docile, but I am not sure how old she really is. I am wondering how long it will take for me to really bond with her.

Yeah had her since she was weaned at 3 months old. We bonded well and she is somewhat sociable with others having food to offer helps but she anything but docile. imagine a semi automatic flying bolt cutter with a hunger for keyboards.
