Good morning , Our Macaw recently started hanging out on the bottom of his cage and shredding the newspaper , then he pushes it out of the cage . He is also burring himself in the paper. We have had him almost 2 years and never saw this before.:blue1:

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Paper shredding is a favorite past time with mine.

My guess is he just discovered that he could, so it's a new way to entertain himself.

Put a phone book on the bottom of his cage (or hang it up.) Let him shred that instead. Free bird toys that keep them entertained for a considerable amount of time? PRICELESS!

5 Parrots, 8 year old Blue-fronted Amazon, 2 1/2 yr. old African Grey, 2 3/4 year old Senegal. 5 month old ekkie, 5 month old Albino parakeet. Major Mitchell Cockatoo, passed away at age 68.
Greys do that as well. Mine discovered a stack of papers I keep for changing the bottom of their cages. Couldn't find the bugger one day, and was freaking out, I called out to him, " Greyson where are Ya??" I heard a Peep, and cluck cluck cluck... and there he was in a stack of papers just having a ball.
