Something happened this morning that was incredibly hurtful and emotional for me. I literally wailed in emotional pain and collapsed to the floor. It was that bad. As I was still sobbing, I felt some gentle nudging. Charlotte had gotten off her perch and came over to me and was trying to preen me. She just curled up next to me and snuggled and preened, more gently than I ever thought that beak was capable of. I was so shocked. We've made a lot of progress in the last month, but I didn't think we were quite to that place yet. I'm still upset, but her loving on me like that really has made things so much better. It's amazing how healing animals can be.

First, I'm very sorry you had such an upsetting experience. That is a wonderful feeling that for the first time Charlotte acknowledged how much she cares about you. I'm glad that she was able to lift your spirits. :)

Ohhhhhhhh yes you're bonding for sure. I'm so sorry you've been so upset.... Once when i was very upset my grey Iago who was very hostile at first walked over and did the same for me. So sweet and loving. I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks. She's actually being a bit of a velcro bird right now. She's on my knee and keeps looking at me with this "are you okay? You're going to be okay" look, and gets overly concerned if I put her down to do silly things like use the bathroom or pay attention to the other birds. It's really sweet. I knew we were developing a good bond, but I didn't realize how close it had gotten. She really is an amazing bird.

And I will be okay. MrC is calling somebody to talk about what happened and why it's so hurtful. I'm incapable of having that conversation, so he's going to do it for me, at least for now.

I'm glad MrC is handling that for you, and I am sorry you are going through such a hard time. It's wonderful that Charlotte knew you needed her and wanted to comfort you. I would definitely say you have built a strong bond with her already, and I am glad she is there for you. I hope things get better for you soon.

I am so very sorry that you had this terrible experience. Charlotte is incredible, it just goes to show how intuitive our feathered family members are. I hope and pray that the unsettling situation resolves positively and quickly and that you and Charlotte continue bonding.

Thank you guys. The last few years have actually been a bit of a roller coaster, with the last two months being particularly difficult. I really wasn't looking for a new bird when I got Charlotte, but she was in a desperate situation and there was just this instant connection so I took her home. She was still very stand off-ish at first, but she's blossomed. And I think MrC was right. I needed her as much as she needed me.

And I will get through this. After all the hell I've been through in the last few years, I'm still standing, and I will remain that way. This morning was just one of those moments when you hit that wall and think you can't do it anymore and just want peace. Then a not so little birdie made it better.

Charlotte came into your life for a reason and today you found out why. You two need each other.
